In Search of My Sanity

I’m on a quest to try and figure out what’s wrong with the human race. Nailing jell-o to a tree would be easier and more fulfilling.

Some days I’m ashamed to belong to the same species as my fellow man.

People are so wrapped up in their looks – appearances are everything and it seems to be the single biggest thing people define themselves and others by. Clothes don’t make the man – The man makes the clothes . . .well, at least that’s how it used to be. Nowadays we contain more plastic content than a “What’s in your Wallet” Capital One card and they’re 100% plastic – so what does that tell you?

Do you ever stop and think about how much $$$$ is spent solely on improving ones looks? How much do you spend? On make up, creams, memberships, plastic surgery, dieting, hair, nails, skin, clothes, shoes!??!!

Does a $150.00 pair of jeans really make your ass look better than a $20.00 pair? Do they feel any different? Denim is denim, after all, isn’t it? Is the status symbol of a certain designer’s name across your ass worth a difference of $130.00?

I’d sweeten that deal and buy a pair of jeans for $5.00 at a Thrift Store (you can find them new with the tags still on at that price) and realize a savings of $145.00. There is a lot I could do with that money and as long as I don’t have to walk around with my ass hanging out what does it matter how much I paid for the pants covering it?

I don’t define myself by the labels I can afford to buy. I’m not so sure I could justify spending that much even if money was no object. I like saving money and natural resources. I like reducing and reusing and keeping perfectly good things out of landfills. I like the idea of repurposing things that still have plenty of life left in them. I like curb alerts and people who leave useable items outside of dumpsters so someone will find it and take it home.

A little aside – Joy Behar is allowed to become indignant at Bill O’Reilly for his remark about Muslims and 9/11 on ‘The View’ today and walk off the set to underscore her disgust. Then on her show (the same night) she makes facetious remarks about the Chilean miners and their mistresses and maligns Tiger Woods (like he needs any help) by saying she didn’t know he was even in Chile. What a hypocritical catty witch she is. It’s a double standard – it’s only OK to cast aspersions if SHE’S the one doing it – nice!
